Role Overview

Coupang Privacy Compliance Monitoring Team monitors and assesses whether personal data, location information, and other regulated data are managed appropriately in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and global security standards across all business areas in Korea and internationally.

Beyond evaluating regulatory compliance, the team serves as a compliance control tower, supporting the timely resolution of identified risks within business processes and operations. Director II, Compliance Monitoring plays a key role in advancing Coupang's privacy compliance framework and strengthening trust in data protection.

What You Will Do

· Lead the Compliance Monitoring Team and strengthen organizational trust in data protection and privacy compliance.

· Develop enterprise-wide compliance monitoring strategies and execution roadmaps based on personal data, location information regulations, and global standards, while leading the organization.

· Establish and operate regular and ongoing compliance monitoring frameworks covering services and internal processes across domestic and international businesses and manage organizational execution.

· Manage enterprise-wide risks through integrated governance and enhance risk assessment and prioritization methodologies based on business impact.

· Provide remediation guidance for significant compliance gaps and oversee effectiveness validation and post-remediation management processes.

· Establish assessment frameworks for evaluating the privacy protection maturity of external vendors and business partners, and lead ongoing risk management and continuous improvement efforts.

· Collaborate with a broad range of global and domestic stakeholders, including Legal, Security, Engineering, and Business teams, to coordinate and execute compliance initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree or higher

· 15+ years of experience in privacy compliance, data protection, or related compliance functions, including experience leading organizations and teams.

· Deep understanding of applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Location Information Act, and other relevant requirements, with demonstrated experience applying them in business environments.

· Proven experience designing, operating, and enhancing privacy management systems, governance programs, or compliance monitoring frameworks within large-scale organizations.

· Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to make strategic decisions and effectively lead teams in complex stakeholder environments.

· Strong ethical standards and accountability, with the ability to build, promote, and lead a culture of compliance across the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience leading privacy compliance organizations within large-scale technology companies, e-commerce businesses, or digital platform environments that process significant volumes of personal data.

· Technical knowledge and practical experience applying privacy and compliance requirements within cloud-native and microservices architecture (MSA) environments.

· Master's or Ph.D. degree in Privacy, Information Security, Law, Compliance, or a related field, combined with strong global communication capabilities, including business-level English and professional English writing skills.

· Relevant certifications such as CISA, CISSP, ISMS-P, ISO 27001, CPPG, or equivalent, as well as experience driving compliance automation and data-driven operational excellence initiatives.
