Role Overview
Compliance plays a critical role in ensuring Coupang operates ethically, transparently, and in full alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. As a Compliance Director/Senior Principal, you will lead and manage compliance programs across multiple domains, ensuring they are effectively embedded into the organization and executed with rigor.
This position will primarily support the Environment, Health Safety (EHS) and Fire Safety domains and serve as a strategic partner to Environment, Health Safety, Fire Safety Compliance, Safety Operations, Legal, Compliance Analytics, and business stakeholders. You will act as a strategic partner to business and functional leaders, driving compliance program governance, risk management, and remediation efforts while operating in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving global environment.
What You Will Do
• Develop and manage compliance programs, with an initial primary focus on the Environment, Health Safety (EHS) and Fire Safety domain and expectations to support additional compliance domains over time including Fair Trade, HR, Product Trade, Last Mile Logistics, Trust Safety, AML/Sanctions, Information Security TBA, Ethics Anti-Corruption, and Financial Crime
• Manage 1 to 3 assigned compliance domains based on expertise, with global coverage across compliance projects
• Drive program governance by establishing timelines, tracking progress, and ensuring delivery of key compliance priorities
• Develop and maintain centralized risk tracking systems to monitor compliance gaps and remediation progress
• Ensure timely identification, escalation, and resolution of non-compliance issues across the organization
• Collaborate closely with compliance domain leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure program effectiveness and alignment
• Prepare and communicate reports, dashboards, and metrics on compliance program performance, including risk status, legal registers, monitoring activities, and compliance priorities
• Partner with senior leadership to drive remediation efforts and strengthen compliance controls
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance compliance frameworks, processes, and organizational awareness
• Promote a strong compliance culture by embedding policies, standards, and expectations across the organization
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science/Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Law, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in EHS / Fire Safety, compliance, risk management, audit, or related areas
• Strong knowledge of environmental, occupational health safety, and fire safety regulatory requirements and compliance program expectations across applicable jurisdictions
• Working knowledge of international EHS management frameworks and standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
• Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation processes, corrective action management, and compliance monitoring
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
• Experience developing, reviewing, or maintaining regulatory inventories, legal registers, compliance obligations registers, or similar compliance management frameworks
• Experience in compliance program management and risk assessment methodologies
• Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate complex risks and develop practical solutions
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
